Meanings are interpretations, not definitions

Unicode assigns each emoji a name and a code point; it does not assign a meaning. Every statement on this site about what an emoji “means”, when it is flirtatious or sarcastic, or how it lands with a particular audience is the site’s editorial description of common usage. Usage varies between people, ages, cultures, platforms and years. The guides describe likely readings and known pitfalls; they cannot tell you how a specific person will understand a specific message, and you remain responsible for what you send.

Data and artwork

Names, code points and version numbers are reproduced from the Unicode Emoji 18.0 data and are accurate to that release. Newer releases may add or change characters; each page states the snapshot it uses. The preview artwork is Twemoji and shows one design among many; the emoji you paste is drawn by the receiving device or app and may look noticeably different, and newer characters may not display at all on older software. Nothing on this site should be read as a promise about how an emoji will appear elsewhere.

Tools and third-party facts

• Moon phase calculator. The current moon phase page computes the phase in your browser from the mean lunar cycle. It is accurate to within about a day and is meant for choosing an emoji, not for astronomy, navigation, religious observance or any purpose where exact timing matters; use an ephemeris-based source for those.
• TikTok emoji codes. The shortcode list documents a feature of a third-party app, verified against published sources on the date shown. TikTok can change or remove codes without notice; the site is not affiliated with TikTok.
• Slang and trends. Pages about phrases such as “clock it” or “freaky emoji” describe informal usage and cite their sources; slang moves quickly and a description can date.
• Device shortcuts. Keyboard shortcuts on the About page reflect current operating systems and may change with software updates.
