The service

Emoji Directory provides a searchable catalogue of standard Unicode emoji, editorial guides to their meaning and use, a combination builder and a contact form. It is free, requires no account and is provided for general information. The operator may change, suspend or withdraw any part of it at any time without notice.

What you may copy and reuse

• Emoji characters. The characters you copy are Unicode text. You may use them anywhere, for any purpose; they are not owned by this site. Unicode’s data is used under the Unicode licence.
• Preview artwork. The illustrations are Twemoji graphics by Twitter, Inc. and contributors, licensed under CC BY 4.0. You may reuse them under that licence with attribution to the Twemoji project, not to this site. The full text is at the Twemoji licence.
• Guides and other text. The written content, the page designs, the hero illustration and the site’s code are © Emoji Directory. You may quote short passages with a link to the page. You may not republish whole pages, scrape the guides into another product, or present the text as your own.
• The catalogue file. The site’s JSON catalogue is a transformation of Unicode data and is provided for the site’s own use. Take the data from Unicode directly for your own projects.

Acceptable use

You agree not to: send automated requests at a rate that degrades the site for others; attempt to gain access to the server, the contact-form storage or any part of the site not intended for public use; use the contact form to send spam, advertising, abusive material or content you do not have the right to send; or misrepresent the site or its content as endorsed by Unicode, any platform, or any other organisation. The operator may block addresses that breach these rules.

Content and accuracy

Character data is reproduced from Unicode’s published files and is accurate to the release stated on each page. Everything else — meanings, examples, comparisons and advice about tone — is editorial opinion about common usage and is offered as guidance, not as a definition or a guarantee of how any message will be understood. The disclaimer explains these limits in more detail. The operator does not warrant that the site is error-free or always available, and will correct errors when they are reported through the contact form.

Third-party links and services

Pages link to external sites such as Unicode, GitHub, NASA, Emojipedia and news publications, and one page documents shortcodes used inside the TikTok app. Those sites and apps are not controlled by this site, may change without notice, and are subject to their own terms. A link is not an endorsement, and the operator is not responsible for their content or availability.

Limitation of liability

The site is provided “as is” and free of charge. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator excludes liability for any loss or damage arising from use of, or inability to use, the site or its content, including loss caused by reliance on an editorial meaning, by an emoji rendering differently on another device, or by interruptions to the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Privacy

Use of the site is also governed by the privacy policy and the cookie policy, which form part of these terms.

Changes and contact

These terms may be updated; the date at the top of this page shows the current version, and continued use after a change means the new version applies. Questions about the terms can be sent through the contact form.
