Heart emoji
Twelve colours, a dozen decorated hearts and a few broken ones: every heart emoji in one place, with the meaning each colour usually carries.

Every heart emoji, by colour
There are twelve plain coloured hearts in the standard set, and colour is the whole message. β€οΈ (red heart) is love in every sense and the safe default. The others carry associations that are partly convention and partly just the colour: warmth, calm, envy, luxury, mourning. None of these meanings is official; they are how people use the hearts, and a friend who always sends π means exactly what someone else means by β€οΈ.

β€οΈ and β₯οΈ are different characters: red heart is U+2764 with a variation selector that asks for the emoji look, while heart suit (U+2665) is the card symbol and often renders as a small flat heart. Copy β€οΈ unless you specifically want the card suit.
Which heart to send
- Partner: β€οΈ, π or π; π for βyouβre amazingβ.
- Family and close friends: β€οΈ is fine; π and 𧑠avoid any romantic reading.
- Colleagues and acquaintances: a heart reaction is usually safe; in a message, π or π reads better. See the thumbs up guide for reaction etiquette.
- Condolences: π€, π€ or β€οΈβπ©Ή with words.
- Captions: match the colour to the photo or the mood (ππ, ππΏ, π©·β¨).

Questions people ask
What does each colour heart emoji mean?
Red is love; orange warmth; yellow friendship; green nature or envy; blue trust; purple affection with style; black alternative or grief; white purity; brown earthiness; pink sweetness. These are conventions, not rules β the senderβs habits matter more than the colour chart.
What is the difference between β€οΈ and π?
β€οΈ is one plain heart and reads as love or support. π is two small hearts and reads lighter and more playful β affection for a thing or a friend as much as for a person.
Why does my heart emoji look black or plain?
You probably copied β₯οΈ (heart suit) or a red heart without its variation selector; some apps then draw a plain text glyph. The β€οΈ card on this page copies the emoji version.
Is there a heart emoji in every colour?
Twelve colours exist in Emoji 18.0. There is no teal, gold or rainbow heart; people use combinations such as ππ or πβ€οΈ for those.
