What the question mark emoji means
❓ (red question mark) is a question you want noticed — a poll, “thoughts?”, confusion — and ❔ is the quieter white version. ⁉️ combines it with an exclamation for “what?!”. People reach for the red mark when a plain “?” would get lost in a caption, or as a one-character reply meaning “explain”. 🤔 is the face that asks the question; 🙋 the person with a question to ask.
