What each Snapchat friend emoji means
Snapchat shows a small emoji next to some friendsโ names in your chat list. They are ordinary Unicode emoji โ the same ๐ and ๐ฅ you can copy anywhere โ but inside Snapchat they carry specific meanings that the app assigns automatically from how often you and that friend snap each other. This list follows Snapchatโs own support page; older third-party lists mention extra emoji (๐ฏ for a 100-day streak, ๐ถ for a new friend, โจ and ๐) that Snapchat no longer documents.

How the emoji are decided, and how to change them
- Best Friends are calculated from Snaps and Chats you exchange; the list updates continuously and is private to you.
- The hearts escalate: ๐ becomes โค๏ธ after two weeks as mutual #1s and ๐ after two months. Breaking the pattern drops you back.
- Streaks need a Snap (not a Chat) from both sides every 24 hours; โ appears as a warning before the streak breaks.
- You can customise which emoji represents each status in Settings โ Manage โ Friend Emojis; the meanings stay the same.
