Two waves
βWave emojiβ means either the hand or the sea. π (waving hand) is hello and goodbye: a greeting in a new chat, an introduction in a work channel (βπ hi all, Iβm the new designerβ), a sign-off. π (water wave) is the ocean: beach days, surfing, summer, and figuratively a βwaveβ of anything, from heat to feelings. Both are original emoji and display everywhere; the hand has all five skin tones.
The waving hand has one trap. In a tense conversation a lone π reads as a dismissal β βbyeβ, as in βIβm done with thisβ β and in some online communities it is a deliberate brush-off.
